Are they one and the same?
Also, any personal info on "Supartz" injections?

See this site for info on Synvisc (Supartz is another brand name of matching injectable medication called hyaluronan): http://orthopedics.going on for.com/cs/treatmen…
And this site for info on Cortizone injections: http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/paindrug…
Basically, cortizone is an anti-imflammatory drug and hyaluronan is a lubricating fluid.

Synvisc can be given in either the spanking new once a month injection or the series of three. I just got the three. If you do the regular Synvisc you will see the doctor once a week for three weeks. Then you will continue about 30 days to see how it worked. Synvisc injections are expensive and can only be given every six months.
Cortisone within used as an anti-inflamatory. Some states limit the number or cortisone shots you can get contained by a one year period.
Check with your doctor to see what he/she recommend. Source(s): Been there done that.
From what I have gathered, they are somewhat different but run out up doing the same kind of result. While synvisc is said to be somewhat of a lubricant, cortizone is more of a deadener. Yet synvisc have some pretty heavy warnings attached so that once again it is never as correct as what you had. Also synvisc seems to be for the knees one and only and coritzone anywhere.
Be alert if you get the cortisone shots. When I worked in a physiotherapy clinic as a student I saw one merciful who had just have his shots & the doctor manipulated him just after & he feel no pain BUT the end results be not good & very bumpy! Of course that is just 1 forgiving BUT it has stuck in my mind, the bruising & discomfort after the fact for nearly 25years, that's how bad it be!
