Swollen oral cavity due to bug bite or Infection?

I woke up this morning with severly swollen lips (mostly top) and they itched. I must own been scratching them because when I woke up, I be still doing it. Is it possibly a bug bite? Do I need antibotics? Should I see a doctor?
Answers:
If they are swollen then the first entry you need to do is take an antihistamine to return with the swelling down. A 25 mg benadryl will be fine. Then you need to see if you actually own a punctured area where something may enjoy bitten you. It may not be a bite, it may be an allergic reaction to something you put on your lips or that your upper lip come in contact with. If it is an infection next the benadryl will not take the swelling down but if it is an allergic reaction to a bite or from contact beside something then the swelling should subside somewhat. If you feel approaching the swelling is getting worse and your tongue starts to feel like it is swelling after you need to go to the ER ASAP because your throat would be subsequent and that would not be good. They can give you a shot to stop the swelling and some prednisone (probably a decreasing dose for a week) to give support to keep then inflammation down and stop the adverse response from whatever has cause this situation. Please keep an eye on the area and if you do surface like the swelling is getting worse and moving then budge ahead to the ER. Better to be safe than sorry. Hope that helps some, it may seem to be like overkill but I have see things like that happen and it isn't pretty.
I would dance see a doctor right away. Only a doctor can tell you if you need antibiotics.
