It can take up to a month or so, depending on you. Stay off the ankle and if you must totter, use crutches. Keep the effected foot elevated, take some Motrin 600 Mg for a few days, and soak your foot and ankle surrounded by some hot water with Epsom Salt mixed contained by, follow the directions on the bag. I hope you used ice for the first sunshine it happened. If the ankle isn't swollen, then the sprain may not be as discouraging as some. They say that a bad sprain is worse than a break. When the time comes that you be aware of you want to walk on it, apply some ace bandage around the ankle for support. Best of luck to you young at heart lady. Source(s): My experience and opinion.
Sprains take longer usually to heal than broken bones, because of the different muscles and tissues, wheras, bones, made of calcium can usually make well themselves. It may take several weeks to a few months to recover, and even after, (depending on how bad you sprained it) your ankle will not be as strong, and you have a superior risk of spraining it again. Each sprain is different. Some are small and some can be as bad as a break. This is something best discussed with a professional and not within a forum. But, with my sprain I was hopping around for 2 weeks. I goofed mine up fruitless. Source(s): experience!
It will probably be sore for several days, possibly weeks, depending on how severe the sprain is. Below is an excerpt from mayohealth.org, which is my favorite health site. I am assuming you have a mild to moderate sprain. Have you be to the doctor to make sure you don't have a fracture?
Treatment for a sprained ankle depends on the severity of your injury:
Mild sprain (grade 1). Self-care measures, such as putting rime on your ankle and taking an over-the-counter pain reliever such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others) or acetaminophen (Tylenol, others), may be all you have need of.
Moderate sprain (grade 2). In addition to the self-care measures for a mild sprain, your doctor may suggest you wear an ankle brace while the sprain heals. You may also stipulation to use crutches for a few days.
Severe sprain (grade 3). For a severe sprain and if your ankle joint is unstable, your doctor may refer you to a joint specialist for evaluation. You may inevitability a cast or walking boot to render inoperative your joint so that it can heal properly. In sporadic cases of severe ligament tears, or if you are an elite athlete, you may need surgery to repair the defacement. The first time is other the worst. It takes around a week if you ice it and nurse it. But once you do it enought you don't even have a feeling it. at least not very much.
Unless you suddenly become Wolverine (from X-men) than I'd expect to have pain for roughly 2 weeks or so.
